BASA X Sandisk Volunteer Day 2025

written by Alex Wang

Although I couldn't be there in person, I am incredibly proud to share the success of our volunteer event with the team at Sandisk this past Wednesday. After weeks of planning and coordination, it was fantastic to see the photos and hear from our team how wonderfully everything came together at their Milpitas campus.

The event kicked off with inspiring opening remarks from Khurram Ismail, Chief Product Officer - Sandisk Executive Team, which set a wonderful tone for the day. It meant a lot to our students to have senior leadership there to support the event.

The goal was to assemble hands-on STEM kits for our upcoming student programs, and the Sandisk campus was buzzing as their team jumped right in to help. For an hour, the room was a hive of activity as volunteers worked through four different stations: carefully sorting components for robotics kits, assembling goodie bags, building miniature parachutes, and preparing bridge-building kits. Our team on the ground shared that it was amazing to see a room full of people from the tech industry coming together to directly support the next generation of innovators.

An event like this takes a lot of coordination, and we couldn't have done it without Christina Wang from Sandisk’s People, Community, and Engagement team. From our first meeting to handling all the on-site logistics, Christina was our go-to person and made the entire process smooth for our student-run organization. We’re incredibly grateful for her support.

I also want to give a huge shout-out to our own Bay Area Stem Academy team who were there: Abhay Shukla, Louis DeScioli, Alvin Wang, and Annika Hegde. They did a great job running the project stations and making sure all the Sandisk volunteers had a great experience. And thank you to our adult supervisor, Walter Wang, for being there with them.

By the end of the day, we had boxes full of ready-to-go stem kits. For us, that means we're now one step closer to getting these hands-on learning tools to students. Each kit represents a chance for a young learner to build, experiment, and hopefully discover a passion for science and technology.

Thank you again to everyone at Sandisk who took time out of their day to help. We’re so grateful for this partnership and look forward to what we can do together in the future.

Best,
